Vinoba Bhave’s Exposition of The Bhagvada Geeta

                                                         Praveena Desai

The writings of Veda Upanishads and the Bhagwat Geeta are our Magna Charta. They are
a permanent calling to the Indian’s imagination to strive towards three words that are Purity, Innocence,

               and Divinity.
When we speak of the philosophy of the Bhagavad Geeta, we mean the elucidation of Indian

cultural and spiritual heritage. The Bhagavad Geeta methodically states in nutshell the wealth of wisdom.
The 700 couplets of the Bhagavad Geeta contain four parts in each couplet. These 2800 (700x4)

couplets are multi vitamin tablets that have the strength to lead any human soul to rise to realization and
attain eternal universal bliss of Existence and Knowledge , out of which everything emanates and

               spreads.
The beauty and joy of learning Gandhi’s or Vinoba’s words on the Bhagavad Geeta is that

they interpret those ageless ‘formulae of living’ in the context of human aspiration of the present age
               and in today’s parlance.

Hitherto saints and learned men have spread highest principles of knowledge and devotion
among the common public. But it is rare that somebody prepared a commentary on a scripture, presenting

the highest spiritual efforts and experiences which were attuned to the spiritual process. Vinoba’s
mastery over the subject, his faith that God resides more in the ordinary man than in the superman, and

his omnipresent compassion have made this possible. Vinoba described that his book on the Bhagavad
               Geeta serves three purposes:

                       A. This is a simplified description of the philosophy of benevolence which will be very useful
and easily followed even by a manual labourer.

                        B. The yoga of Samya or equanimity is ordained to coordinate with the age of science.
