attainment of welfare and good prospects . This is the ideal model of society, as per Vinoba’s vision of
               the Veda.
Commenting upon the word ‘Vishva-manusha’ (Rigveda VIII.7.9), he hails the Vedic seers

for their vision of global citizen, and quotes the following stanza of the Mahabharata, for explaining the
concept of noble citizenship : -

                                     (Mahabharata, Shantiparvan, 261.9)

One who is friend of all, and is always engaged in welfare of others, through his action, thought
and speech, is able to understand the real essence of Dharma (righteousness). No one else can

                                     19
               understand the Dharma .
For reiterating the Vedic message of humanity and humaneness, he cites the following Mantra:-

                                         çfrx`H.khr ekuoa lqesèkl%A(Rigveda X.8.2)
O Intelligent people! Accept the whole mankind with humanity and humaneness. Cultivate the

humanitarian values, and realize the oneness of entire mankind. 20
The Veda condemns the selfishness of man. Vinoba explains this in his analysis of the

               following Mantra:-
                                                 uk;Ze.ka iq";fr uks l[kk;a

                                        dsoyk?kks Hkofr dsoyknhA (Rigveda X.16.6)
One who does not nourish the noble fellow beings or friends, and enjoys all pleasures alone, is

really consuming sins only. The entire wealth of whole humanity is for all. One who selfishly enjoys it
                                         21
alone is considered as sinner .
For analysis of the Vedic concept of health, he cites the following Mantra:-
                                                    b"—frukZe oks ekrk

                                          vFkks ;w;a LFkfu"—rh%A (Rigveda X. 14.3)
O medicinal herbs! You all are curing energies, whereas your mother, the Mother Nature, is

               real preventive energy.
He, through his comments, advocates the adherence to the path of Nature for attainment of
                                     22
               real and all-round health .
The life is the divine boon. The Vedic message for leading long life is well explained by

Vinoba in his analysis of following Mantra: -
                                         'kra tho 'kjnks oèkZeku%A (Rigveda X. 23.2)
